Frequently Asked Questions
- Will there be child care for my children?
Yes! Children are warmly welcomed in worship and each Sunday there is a children’s message just for them. We also have activity bags which are on the left-hand side before you get to the sanctuary, underneath the big white board that holds name tags. Children’s bulletins are available at the back of the church or from an usher.
However, if you feel your child would be better off not in the worship service, we provide nursery care during the service for ages 3 and under and children’s chapel for age 4 through second grade. These activities are held downstairs, and anyone would be glad to direct you to them.
There’s also a “Giggle Room” at the back of the sanctuary where parents can sit comfortably with restless little ones and still hear and see the service.
Breastfeeding moms are welcome! If you prefer privacy, we have areas where you can nurse your baby.
- How should I dress?
Come as you are! Some folks dress up for church but plenty of others wear jeans or casual clothing. We care more about you being there than we do about what you are wearing.
- What type of music does the church have?
We have a wonderful choir led by the renowned songwriter/musician Nancy Price. Our choir is accompanied by a piano most Sundays, but we do have a bell choir, children’s choir, and special music. For the most part we sing from the new Presbyterian hymnal, Glory to God.
- How often is communion served?
Communion is served on the first Sunday of every month. Communion is served individually. Ushers indicate to each pew when walk to the front of the church where each person takes a small individual communion cup and a piece of bread, then returns to their seats. When everyone has been served, we take communion together. If anyone needs to be served at their seat, for example, for mobility reasons, the ushers are happy to bring communion to them. We believe that all are welcome at the Lord’s table.
- Is there any difference between the two services?
Not really, except the people at the 8:30 service might look a little sleepier! The services are substantially the same. The 11:00 service is the more heavily attended one, but of course we would love to see you at either one.
- How handicapped accessible is the church?
We are fully handicapped accessible, with an external ramp and an internal elevator. We have a group of individuals from Heritage Christian Home who regularly worship with us and they are an important part of our congregation. All are truly welcome.
- Where are the restrooms located?
There are restrooms on both floors. There is a pair of restrooms on the left hand side just before the sanctuary entrance. There are baby changing stations inside both the men’s and women’s rooms on the main floor.
- Are visitors announced?
No. There are friendship cards in the pews which you may sign if you wish. (If you bring a filled-out card to the Welcome Desk, we would be happy to give you a small welcome gift!) If you tell someone you are visiting, we would be delighted to get to know you, but if you would rather not, that is also fine.
