It was reported on Christian News Network (and on CNN) on April 19, 2018 that a young boy named Emanuele asked the Pope: “My father died a short time ago. He was an atheist, but he had his four children baptized. He was a good man. Is Dad in Heaven?”, and the Pope replied, “It’s nice that a son says that about his father, that he was good…. The one who says who goes to Heaven is God. But what is God’s heart with a dad like that? What? What do you think? A father’s heart. God has a dad’s heart.’”
What beautiful words! We must remember that the love of God is so much bigger than we can imagine. We limit God when we think of Him in human terms. God really loves us. The depth of his love is unfathomable. None of us knows exactly what will happen when we die, but we can be confident that our loving Father will give us every opportunity to respond to His love and to believe in His son, Jesus.
When we fall, God is always there to pick us up, and not with a reprimand but with unconditional love. He knows we will fall short over and over again, but He loves us enough to pick us up each and every time if we let Him. What a comfort that is as we each make our way through this life!
