Recurring Event Event Series: Adult Sunday Study

Adult Sunday Study

November 27 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

In my last two months with you as your parish associate, I will be teaching a seven-week Sunday morning class on “How to Read the Bible.” It will be based on one of my favorite books, “How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth,” by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart. Gordon Fee, my friend, teacher, and mentor of six decades, died last week at age 88. Gordon wrote all the New Testament chapters, and I can hear his voice as I read his work.

In the corner-walled section of the Fellowship Hall, we will begin by looking at Old Testament narrative through the wonderful Book of Ruth. That book is just four chapters, easy to read, and gives us a lab in understanding the leading literary type in the Bible, narrative, or storytelling. We will also look at the biblical categories of prophecy, wisdom, gospel, early church narrative, letter, and revelation.

New and used copies (in good condition) of “How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth,” are readily available on Amazon and ChristianBooks.com, usually for very good prices. If you want your own copy, which I recommend, you can order it today and probably have it by Sunday. The class lasts about an hour, so choir members can attend it and still participate in choir. This is open to all. I hope to see you in this study Sunday morning. In advance, start reading Ruth, which is the eighth book in the Old Testament. SDG, Harry
