Connecting with God

January is a great time of year to connect with God in new ways, and to refresh ourselves in the study of God’s word in Scripture.

The Bible is the primary way we learn the story of God and meet God-With-Us in Jesus. Yet for many people the Bible can feel intimidating. You may wonder how to start personal reading and study of Scripture.

So this year Pastor Nadia and I want to offer two new ways to connect with God’s word. Starting January 15, Pastor Nadia will be leading a new Bible study here at church, beginning with the first book of the Bible, Genesis. This is a great opportunity to dig deeper into the Bible in conversation with a pastor and others who are seeking to grow in faith and understanding. The Bible study will meet at church on Thursdays at 10am, starting January 15. Everyone is welcome.

Also this year in the e-votionals, we’ll be regularly sharing videos from The Bible Project. It’s a ministry that has created hundreds of videos helping people understanding the overarching themes in Scripture, showing how the Bible is one unified story that points to Jesus. Their videos are theologically sound, engaging, and accessible for everyone from tweens through adulthood.

This week our video explores the story of Jesus’ baptism in Luke, and how his baptism was rooted in the history of Israel while also pointing ahead to key aspects of Jesus’ ministry. You can watch the five minute video here, in preparation for Baptism of the Lord Sunday. Our Scripture reading for Sunday is Mark 1:1-13.

God’s peace,
Pastor Laura
