The season of Lent begins today, Ash Wednesday, and this year our Lenten worship series invites us to experience AWE—to see more deeply all that is good and true in the world, and through it, to glimpse the underlying, ever-present faithfulness of God.
The Apostle Paul, concluding his letter to the church in Philippi, writes, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (Philippians 4:8). This is very much the spirit behind our Lenten series, “Purveyors of Awe: Elements for Curating a Life of Spiritual Depth.”
There is power in training our eyes to see, and our ears to hear, all that is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy in this world, for this helps us face anxiety, challenges, injustice, and grief from a place of deep rootedness with God.
It is my prayer that this theme will be a gift to you in season, challenging us all to pause and notice the presence of the Lord around us, and within us, deepening our spiritual lives and reservoirs of faith.
