Salt and Light

“O give thanks unto the Lord,
for He is good, yes He is good!”
What beautiful words of praise offered to us by gospel musician Judith Christie McAllister. Our PPC children and choir are learning this song and will be sharing it with us in worship. Indeed we have so much for which to praise and thank the Lord—in our own lives and in the history of God’s church here at Perinton. This Sunday we’ll be celebrating God’s faithfulness and love, poured out for us in Jesus, and in our life together as a congregation of his people.

Our text will be a continuation of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, as he moves from the Beatitudes, which we heard last Sunday, into the powerful reminder that as his disciples we ARE salt and light.
This week I invite and encourage you to meditate on God’s goodness to you—how has our Lord strengthened and sustained you? How has God shown up to walk beside you day by day? In the Valley of the Shadow of Death, how has God been your Shepherd? In moments of celebration, how has God filled your cup to overflowing?

It is so easy to get discouraged, down, and disappointed in life, yet God is always present to help us through and lift us up. As a time of prayer today, I encourage you to listen to the song “O Give Thanks Unto the Lord” and as you listen and worship, let God fill your cup. You can find the song here on YouTube: O Give Thanks Unto the Lord.

“O give thanks unto the Lord,

for He is good, yes He is good!”

And a personal note:

First, thank you all for your prayers for me this past weekend and for coming together in such a wonderful way to lead worship on Sunday. I was able to worship with you from home at 11am and our household was blessed to receive lunch from the 5th Sunday Meal Ministry.
I’m also happy to share with you that my husband Mike has accepted the invitation to serve as interim pastor at the Byron First Presbyterian Church. This is a wonderful opportunity for him to serve right here in our own Presbytery of Genesee Valley, and a way that Mike can build on his previous experience as an interim pastor and leadership coach. As we continue to navigate the special gifts and challenges of being a clergy couple, we are grateful that God has opened this door and placed this call in Mike’s life. Pending final approval from our presbytery’s Committee on Ministry, Mike plans to begin on February 13. Sunday mornings will be a bit busier for us, to be sure, but we know God guides, provides, and always leads the way. Thank you all, as always, for your love, prayers, and support for us and our family.

Scripture for Sunday: Matthew 5:13-16
